How is an auto loan payment calculated?

Auto loan payments are calculated by taking the vehicle price, adding sales tax, subtracting down payment and trade-in value to get the financed amount, then applying the standard amortization formula.

Should I include sales tax in my auto loan?

Most states charge sales tax on vehicle purchases. Including it in your loan calculation gives you a more accurate monthly payment estimate.
